Life and times of legendary playback singer Kishore Kumar are being brought alive on celluloid.

The film is to be directed by Shoojit Sarkar and produced by UTV.
The film will be made on a big scale, sources said on Monday. It is being scripted by Rang De Basanti fame writer Renzil D’Selva.

The late singer’s wife Leena Chandavarkar and sons Amit Kumar and Sumit Kumar have given their consent for the project.

The project will be officially announced after the casting and other formalities are completed.

The announcement of the film has been made from the singer’s family Monday to commemorate the 79th birth anniversary of Kishore Kumar.

Kishore Kumar has sung in many Indian languages including Hindi, Bengali (his mother tongue), Marathi, Assamese, Gujarati, Kannada, Bhojpuri, Malayalam and Oriya. Along with Mohammad Rafi and Mukesh, he was one of the three leading male Bollywood playback singers from the 1950s to the mid-1980s.

Kishore Kumar holds the record for most number of Filmfare Awards won for Best Male Playback Singer.

Kishore Kumar sang for all leading actors in 1970s and 80s, including Rajesh Khanna , Amitabh Bachchan , Dharmendra , Sanjeev Kumar, Dev Anand , and Rishi Kapoor .

Kishore Kumar was on the top of his singing career when tragedy struck the music world in October 1987. He passed away due to massive heart attack.
